How do people misunderstood religious practice and doctrine for spirituality?

As explained above, Christianity is not a religion but a way of life, neither religion is Christianity but a pattern of worship, whereas church doctrine is not a religious law but just an organizational ethics, a set of roles that guide the conduct of a religious organization. However, people mistaking this fact for spirituality, every church organization have their doctrine and pattern of worship, but that does not make them spiritual, that you go to church every Sunday and every weekly activities does not make you spiritual, or that your church gives you a pattern of dressing or worship and a way of interactions with the opposite sex in their organization does not still make you spiritual, all this are just doctrine and a religious way of worship.

What then is spirituality?

Spirituality involves the recognition of a feeling or sense or belief that there is something greater than yourself, something more to being human than sensory experience, and that the greater whole of which we are part is divine in nature. This has to do with divinity, something beyond the physical realm, but having the dept knowledge that it's exist through practical relationship.

Biblically, it is the process of the divine restoration and healing of the broken relation between the Triune God and humanity. As such, biblical spirituality is the response of a repentant human heart and mind to the loving heart and mind of God.

Misunderstanding spirituality

1. Going to church every Sunday is not spirituality.

2. Celebrating every festival, such as Christmas, and Easter does not make a man spiritual.

3. That your church organization does not permitt make up or fashion does not mean spirituality or rather make u spiritual.

4. Giving of arms does not make anyone spiritual.

5. Not interacting with the opposite sex in the church is not spirituality but self.

6. Being a pastor or a leader in the church is not spirituality, neither makes you spiritual.

Spirituality and religious activities

★ Many people misunderstood religious activities for spirituality especially christians, thereby doing the opposite of what is required of them, dressing in a particular way or speaking in a particular manner after your leader does not make anyone spiritual but just a religious pattern. Spirituality in christiandom is the consciousness of fellowship with the Spirit of Christ, uninterrupted by carnality and sin. It is the relationship between God and man that can be summed up under seven headings : holiness, righteousness, the gift of the Spirit, the lead of the spirit, life in the Spirit, the bearing of the fruit of the spirit and the discipline of the Spirit.

★ Most religious people makes it look like worshipping according to their organizational ethics is the most spiritual way of worship, meanwhile spirituality does not regards ethics or doctrine, it goes beyond what eyes can see and self righteousness. Spirituality is the act of intimacy with God, worshipping in truth and in spirit with all supplication and thanks giving in the spirit and daily living in the consciousness of eternity.

★ Due to this misconception or misunderstanding, some religious people worship idols ignorantly, bowing to image, and honouring artistics work or design in the name of religious practice, other denomination, sees their mode of dressing as worship to God. Christian spirituality is a life style of Christ and total dominants or control of the holy spirit and his work in a man's life.

"Spirituality does not regards ethics or doctrine, it goes beyond what eyes can see and self righteousness".

Christianity and church doctrine

Christianity is a life style and not a religious practice, it is the way of following Christ, living his kind of life and doing the things he commanded. Christianity is found on five major doctrine, which are ; the doctrine of Christ, the doctrine of the holy spirit, the doctrine of trinity, apostolic and prophetic doctrine, and the doctrine of the church. This doctrines form their bases on the biblical doctrine of Christ, which is the birth of Christ, the crucifixion of Christ, the death of Christ, the resurrection of Christ and the second coming of Christ.

In general terms, Doctrine is a belief, or set of beliefs, held by an organization about the best (or right) way to do things. Doctrine reflects the teaching , the do's and don't or the culture of an organization and staffs' understanding of how those beliefs relate to their roles and responsibilities. Church as a body of Christ is an organization with set of rules and function base on the dealing of the holy spirit with the founder. However, I am not in a way saying that church doctrine should not be regarded but that people should not mistaken Christianity or spirituality for church doctrine.

The life style of Christ

Come to think of it, if Christianity is a life style of Christ that must be followed, lived and practice, what then is the life style of Christ? The scripture says, in Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all those being oppressed by the devil". Jesus Christ was filled with the holy spirit and he went about doing good, healing the sick, delivering the oppressed, restoring the sight of the blind, making the lame walk, raising the dead back to life, feeding the hungry, and driving away demons from possessed people as he also preached and enacted the coming of the Kingdom of God.

Jesus was not known to be building mansions, buying cars, building luxuries and bungalows with many titles and lot of money in the bank account, boasting and bragging of the blessings of God upon his life while the poor are suffering and dying right under his nose. At a time he has to multiply five loaf of bread and two fishes just to feed the hungry, Christ lived a sacrificial life not for the benefits of the glory ahead of him but for the love and passion he has towards humanity, he humbled himself and gave his life for the sin of mankind. This is the life of Christ and the true Christianity. Unlike what we have to day in the body of Christ, the opposite is the case.

Christ life style

Five differences between a true christian and a religious fanatics

★ A true christian is a Christ follower, pressing to know the mind of God for his people, showing the life of Christ to humanity not in pretence, but in kind, indeed and in the spirit, while a religious fanatics is a self righteousness person living to please the leaders in pretence, and recieving the praises of man and of his followers.

★ A true christian is a cheerful giver, not acting in pretence to receive the praises of man but to the glory of God, while a religious practitioner is one who gives and anounces before men to be praise or rather expecting to be given in return.

★ A true christian is not a church goer but the one who worship in truth and in the spirit while a religious person is the one trying to keep the church doctrine to be seen of men without regarding God in his heart.

★ A true christian is not the one fighting for title and position in the church but the one who is humbled and patiently serviing and trusting God. While the religious person is the proudful preacher or servant seeking for position in the church.

★ Obedience is better than sacrifice, a true christian is the person who lived a sacrificial life and obey instructions, while the religious is the eyes service man showing all his good did.
